    about MOOGATU

In late 2010, Moogatu planted the first seeds for its unique blend of funky, wompy prog rock just outside of the nation's capital in bucolic northern Virginia. Soaring dual lead guitars and a pulsing rhythm section bring the quintet's inviting songcraft and creative improvisations to an audience that grows at every club and festival. Moogatu is carving its niche with high energy sets that keep people grooving long into the night.

Moogatu, a local powerhouse jamband warmed up the night [for Kung Fu]. Moogatu featured a local hero, Ron Holloway, from Northern Virginia, on saxophone for the entirety of their set.  Holloway flawlessly found room to add his soulful licks to the band’s dynamic funk foundation. The group kept the crowd pumped up and ready for the madness...It’s safe to say that Moogatu further developed their name... keep an eye out for their future success.

"Previously unfamiliar with Moogatu, I was highly impressed by their set. This 4 piece brings forth another unique and heavy sound, forming much of its music around dual lead guitar parts, with a very tight and complimentary rhythm section."

    Buckeye Music Magazine, October 2012

"We've seen some personal favorites of ours such as People's Blues of Richmond, Moogatu, Moon Hooch and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong dominating the festival scene and rarely taking a night off from playing a show. Moogatu... continue to wow audiences with their creative and technical skills."

    Appalachian Jamwich Magazine, December 2012

"I forgot Moogatu was from [some movie we totally don't remember]. I thought it just stood for 'BADASS!'"

Allen Aucoin (Disco Biscuits), March 2013
